Iron Man visit to Hedon – fantastic event!

IRON MAN and his sidekick for the day, Iron Patriot, visited Hedon on Friday (24th April).

Iron Men – by Paul Benson

Not a stranger to Hedon, Iron Man last visited the town on its busiest day last year for the Christmas lights, but arguably the visit on Friday saw even more families from Hedon see him.

The Iron Men pair visited streets across Inmans in Hedon including a visit to the school and also the Westlands area. They stopped off to give virtual high-fives to children everywhere along the route and spent some time posing for socially-distanced photos especially for those children who were celebrating birthdays.

The response from residents was fantastic with people waving and cheering from their gardens, windows and doorways and offering thanks for the superheroes’ efforts. Some brought out bottled drinks and ice-lollies to keep our superheroes refreshed in the heat.

Our heroes, in real life, were Shaun Sykes playing the ‘Tony Stark’ character and his brother Liam Sykes playing Iron Patriot. They both are part of Suit Up Entertainment who you can find out about on Facebook.

Also playing a major role in the morale-boosting walk was Shaun’s sister Zoe Beacock who filmed the walk on Facebook Live on Suit Up Entertainment, and the live feed was relayed across the town on various other local Facebook pages including Hedon Blog. This allowed people to influence the walk as it took place and give shout-outs about those celebrating birthdays or requesting that the Iron Men visit their street.

Shaun, who is originally from Hedon, passed on his gratitude for the enthusiastic response from people in the town:

“We had such an amazing day! So many people turned out, I’m definitely feeling grateful. I’m really glad it managed to lift spirits a little.” – Iron Man (Shaun Sykes)

This was a fantastic event bringing lots of pleasure particularly to children and the young at heart. This is just a small selection of the dozens of comments left on Facebook during the three and a half hour walkabout.

Kathryn Wickham: Can’t believe how friendly you were to everybody including the lady with the camera. You have given plenty of kids good memories they will not forget. Well done, you’ve brought a lot of fun to the kids and adults.

Cerys Brennan: Thanks for the visit guys. You were amazing xx

Claire Franklin: Fantastic! Just made Sam’s day and thumbs up for his birthday next week. Well done on the mission to cheer up all the children!
