TINA and PATRICIA are both members of Hedon Fitmums & Friends. Tina joined at the inaugural meeting in August 2014, and Patricia has been a member for a year.
Running with Fitmums has helped them both improve their running abilities and make new friends. Many of the residents of Hedon will have seen different groups out on a Monday evening pounding the pavements.
Setting off from Inmans school, walkers and runners can choose from covering distances of 1 to 6 miles, each group with a trained Leader and all members of the group ‘shepherding back’ to ensure that everyone remains part of their group and can jog along at a comfortable pace.
Being a Fitmum also means that members can have the confidence to believe that they can cover longer distances, run at a faster pace, and participate in some of the many races available in our area. This confidence spills over into everyday life.
Tina Begg and Patricia Hay are both running in the London Marathon on Sunday 24th April 2016. This has been a massive undertaking involving lots of running and cross-training and fund-raising for their chosen charities.
Tina has set herself just a few other challenges this year, she has already completed the Three Peaks Challenge and will be doing the Liverpool Marathon, the Great North Run, and the Hull Marathon. She is raising money for Prostate Cancer UK. Visit Tina’s fundraising JustGiving Page at www.justgiving.com/Tina-Begg4
Patricia is also doing the Great North Run. Her charity is Martin House Hospice, a children’s hospice in West Yorkshire which serves our area. Patricia and her husband had the opportunity to visit Martin House last year on their open day, and having seen what a wonderful job they do there is passionate about raising money for them. We encourage Hedon folk to support these two local charity runners – and do look out for them on the TV on Sunday during the race! Good luck Tina and Patricia!
