PEOPLE wishing to make nominations for this year’s East Riding Chairman’s Awards have until the end of January to do so.

The annual awards, which are held at a ceremony at The Spa, Bridlington in May 2015, are presented to individuals, businesses and projects that have helped improve the East Riding over the past year.

The awards are split into five categories:

  1. community – recognises groups and individuals for their contribution to improving the lives of those living in the East Riding with a non-commercial project
  2. built heritage – celebrates private homes or business premises that have been sympathetically renovated and restored
  3. environment – recognises projects that have made an impact in the environment
  4. business – celebrates businesses that have helped the economy flourish
  5. sport – celebrates local sporting talent, hard work and dedication shown by many young volunteers.

Last year’s winner of the built heritage award was Paull Village Hall which was commended for its “striking modern design, taking nautical cues from its location on the banks of the Humber.”

Wouldn’t it be marvellous if more local individuals, businesses and projects were nominated this year and given the chance to win an Award!?

Pictured are Jim Lowde, chairman of Paull Village Hall, and Irene Cross, whose late husband Paul, who died last year, was the previous chairman and drove the fund raising efforts to build the new hall. They are pictured with Clare Frisby, BBC TV presenter and Councillor Claude Mole, chairman of East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Chairman of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Councillor Pat O’Neil, said: “People only have until the end of the month to make nominations so I would ask residents to think if there is someone within their community who would be a deserving recipient of an award.”

To submit a nomination, go to www.eastriding.gov.uk/chairmansawards e-mail chairmans.award@eastriding.gov.uk or contact Sarah Asquith, civic officer at East Riding of Yorkshire Council on 01482 393260.

The closing date for nominations is 31st January 2015.
