DOG FOULING PATROLS by the East Riding Council are taking the campaign against dog fouling to more hot spots.

Starting on Monday, 23rd September 2013 and for the week, dog wardens and council enforcement officers will be in the Anlaby, Beverley, Bridlington, Cottingham, Goole, Hedon, Hessle, Hornsea and Withernsea areas.

Councillor Jackie Cracknell, portfolio holder for community involvement and performance, said: “So far this year, the council has run routine patrols almost every day. In addition we have been running special patrols to concentrate on those hot spots where a small number of walkers do not clean up after their dogs.”

Councillor Cracknell said: “Dog mess has to be cleaned up as it is not only a nuisance but also a health risk. It is just the behaviour of a few that we are trying to tackle, those few owners and walkers who do not clean up the mess or else throw the poop bags into hedge rows.”

Last year, the council carried out more than 1,000 patrols across the East Riding.

The council also ran special patrols in March and June to highlight dog fouling in hot spots where there have been persistent problems.

You can report dog fouling at the East Riding Council website or by calling 01482 396301 – albeit this is only really beneficial if you know the offender or if the incident is a recurring one with opportunities to catch the person responsible for the dog.
