South Holderness Cricket Club – Match Reports by Malc Ripley
AFTER a somewhat barren spell of three consecutive defeats, the first eleven returned to the comfort zone, by eventually overcoming visitors Eastrington CC by a comfortable four wicket margin, off 26 overs, in the Match Sponsored by Drapers Ltd, Metal Merchants, of Raven Street, Hull.
Captain and all-rounder Rich Ingram, played a major part in the overdue success, by clattering eight boundaries in his attractive 40, supported by Lewis Duell with a big six in his 33, whilst Phil Hill stood firm with four fours in his undefeated 33, in the Hedon side’s 123 for 6 reply, off a tiring attack.
Skipper Rich not only reached the 500 run marker (505), in the process, but he also returned 4 for 24 in his eight overs, helped by all-rounder Rich Rosindale with accurate figures of 2 for 5 in his ten overs, whilst youngster Daniel Blood returned 2 for 7 in a pleasing spell.
Only Shane Chatham (26), and Rich Harrison (16), figured for the away team, whereas conversely, Rich Ingram has a lot of work to put in if he is to exceed his best ever season batting wise, of 848 runs in season 2011, with just seven innings available to him to progress. Time alone will tell!!
Result: SHCC 123 for 6 defeated Eastrington CC 119 all out.
ON A DRY track at Fenner CC last Sunday, the An Xl were defeated in the York Eastern Conference Dave Conner Memorial Trophy Semi- Final, when their 20 over total of 101 for 8 proved to be far from enough, to prevent Walkington CC progressing to the Final, to take on Welton & Brough CC.
Two of the up and coming Juniors in Liam Colclough, and Jack Riley top scored with 16 apiece to demonstrate to their older counterparts how it may be done, as only Phil Hill 12 reached double figures in a disappointing performance.
Even though Alex Walmsley returned 2 for 23 in a losing cause, and yet the youngest player on the field all-rounder Luke Ingram, had excellent figures of 2 for 13 in his 3 overs, the experienced duo of Chris Cook with a solid 29, and Mark Frampton (17) put the issue beyond doubt, with few problems, with five overs to spare.
Result: SHCC An Xl 101 for 8 (20 overs), lost to Walkington CC 102 for 5 (15 overs).
The Walkington v Welton & Brough Final was abandoned due to heavy rain mid way during the first innings, therefore the teams will battle it out all over again, this time on Tuesday 6th August 2013 (6.15pm), at Norwood Park, Beverley.
