Match Reports by Malc Ripley:

South Holderness CC 1st v Sutton CC.

The first team found the off-spin of experienced campaigner Lee Sinclair mostly beyond them, as his fine figures of 5 for 20 in 12 tight and productive overs, together with youngster Neil Crofts 3 for 40, had the Hedon based visitors all out for a mere 117 off some 45 overs, at Netherhall on Monday 27th May 2013.

Mike Oliver top scored with a sound 29 containing five boundaries, ‘Keeper Jamie Walkley added 21, Lewis Duell also reached double figures with 16, to leave 14-year-old, the promising Jack Riley stranded on 10 not out.

Sutton-on-Hull, only required 21 overs to secure an easy win, with their 121 for 2 reply, thanks to opener Paul Ollett’s patient 30, to pave the way for Charlie Hunter to come in to blast a quick-fire 43 not out, including a six and eight fours, to set the seal on a miserable weekend result wise for the Holderness outfit.

They will be looking to bounce back, in their local derby rivals at Humbleton CC, next Saturday, (1 .00pm ), before hosting the Sunday E.Y. Alliance, with three 20/20 Cup ties, commencing as early as 10 am when Airmyn and Beverley are their visitors.

South Holderness CC An Xl v Hessle III.

Cricket ballIn stark contrast to their senior squad, the table toppers of Eastern Conference Div.2 SHCC AN Xl, crushed home side, Hessle 3rd at Livingstone Road on 25th May, by a 148 run margin, when the runs certainly flowed on a decent batting pitch.

The visitors 40 overs realised 298 for 5, mainly due to all-rounder elect, Andy Kunkel thrashing no less than nine sixes, together with his six fours, in a devastating 36 ball, undefeated 95.

This brings your scribe to state, that he can’t ever remember, any SHCC batsman ever hitting 9 sixes during an innings, over the last 60 odd years being connected with the Club. Record books should thus be fished out!

Veteran Steve Crane, who has found a new lease of life despite a nagging knee injury, again came good to support, with 11 fours and a six, in a well struck 79. Ian Harrison chipped in with his 33, Eddie Samphire adding 25, together with Ryan Oliver (17) off a wilting home attack.

In reply to the big total, the home side found keen bowling by Holderness just too much, as they were all out with just a single delivery left, with 150 on the board.

Tormentor in chief being Captain and part-time slow bowler Keiron Metcalfe, who returned his best ever figures of 4 for 30 in 6.5 overs. To add to their batting skills, Harrison took 3 for 8 in 7 overs and Kunkel finished his overs with 2 for 28, in the rout.

Junior Team results.

Under 15’s, in the Cup.

Sutton CC – 106 for 7, (Alex Dale 21, Liam Colclough 2 for 21)
beat SHCC 65 for 6, (Jack Riley 28no, Reece Martin 2 for 6).

Under 13’s, in the Cup.

SHCC 138 for 9, (Luke Ingram 25no, Harry Giles 15, David Weston 3 for 8)
beat Cottingham CC, 66 for 6 in 20 overs, Ross Parker 15, Harry Giles 2 for 5).

  1. Malc you won’t have to look far back in the record books, I know I hit 9 sixes and 4 fours in and innings of 94 away against Welton in 2007 and 9 sixes and 5 fours in a 90 not out away against Sutton in 2008. Rgds Neal

  2. SENT BY MALC RIPLEY:

20/ 20 Cricket at Middle Lane this coming Sunday, 2nd June.

A change of plan for those Spectators/Members who intend coming down to Middle Lane, Hedon to watch, what is hoped will be some exciting cricket…..

The three team Round Robin affair, will no longer take place, as the SH Cricket Club have been advised that Airmyn CC, cannot raise a team.

As a result, there will only just be one 20/20 Match, starting at 11 am, SHCC v Beverley CC, when the Bar will be open for Members/Non playing Members of the Club, from the match start time.

We are sad that a three game day, now becomes just a one/off game!

    Malc Ripley, Hon. Secretary/President.
