PCSOs – Should they be funded through Town and Parish Councils?

9:18 am

THE BBC HAS REPORTED that Hessle Town Council has been funding an additional Police Community Support Officer since 2006.

Is this something that should be taken up by other Town and Parish Councils?

What are PCSOs? Police Community Support Officers are employed, directed and managed by Humberside Police. They work to complement and support regular police officers, providing a visible and accessible uniformed presence to improve the quality of life in the community and offer greater public reassurance.

In South West Holderness we currently have three PCSOs.

So what do you think? Should your local Town or Parish Council directly fund a PCSO to work in your specific town/village?

  1. waste of timee and money! They have no powers and are as much use as a chocolate fireguaard! It may fool some into thinking that there are more police but not us all!!!

  2. You shouldnt pay again Jim, What about areas that cant afford to pay again….will it be a case of those who can afford will get extra policing and those that cant wont…….what sort of a society will this create….im totally against this.

  3. On my Council Tax bill I pay a Humberside Police Authority nearly £150, why should I pay again throught my Parish Council
