THE NEW ONLINE CRIME MAPS from the Police.uk website, where users can view the number of crimes at street level, was launched yesterday (1st February 2011) and has been slated in the media because of a number of high-profile errors. Technical problems, compounded by high usage, also made the website inoperable for many visitors and continues to cause problems.
However, – when it works – the website is a vast improvement on the crime mapping technology that was previously available.
The image above shows what was available about Hedon at 7am this morning on the site and lists a total of 25 crimes in this area. Each dot represents the approximate location where a crime has been reported to the police in the last month.
Market Place is listed as the most prolific ‘crime street’ – but no cause for concern as there were only three reported incidents! And the biggest single crime problem in the area was anti-social behaviour with 10 reported incidents.
The website also brings you details of the local police neighbourhood team and police surgeries taking place.
