THE OAK BENCH donated by the Women’s Institute (WI) last year and erected on the green at the corner of Watson Drive and Alison Garth has been destroyed by vandals.
The Holderness Gazette this week reported on the dismay of the local WI Branch members upon receiving the news that the bench had been vandalised beyond repair: The WI members were “dismayed and disgusted by this mindless act of destruction.”
The Town Council had only very recently arranged for the bench to be re-sited by 180° in order to give those seated a grand view of the green space.
I am not aware of any evidence that the bench was vandalised it may have been hit by a vehicle when the roads were covered in snow, however at a recent Hedon Town Council meeting it was agreed to replace the bench asap.
