East Riding News July 2009

East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s official award winning newsletter popped through the letterbox this week. I continue to be impressed by the useful information contained in the publication.

The July 2009 contains an explanation of the council’s opposition to the Environment Agency’s flood management and protection plan. Hedon is earmarked as a potential flood zone.

Councillors’ Allowances for 2008/09 are published. Most councillors currently receive a basic allowance of £10,574 which is intended to cover the costs and time devoted towards their work.

Correspondent Ali Thompson details the moves towards personal budgets for those receiving adult social care. It is a welcome article because undoubtedly there will be some confusion as this is rolled out across the East Riding.

The newspaper also details what we should be putting in our blue wheelie bin for our monthly collection. Shamefully – this blogger found this article very useful!

Finally there are a couple of letters from the Head of Street Scene Services – I do find it funny that the council officer in charge of gritting our roads in the winter is called John Skidmore! Sorry John!

I’ve reproduced the newsletter below on Scribd but is also available to download as a PDF file from the council from its East Riding News Archive.
