Bus service reductions prompt complaints

Shanks pony only alternative to bus stop cuts?

COMPLAINTS AND A PETITION have greeted the proposals by EYMS (East Yorkshire Motor Services) to reduce the frequency of the No. 76 bus service.

The changes to services announced by EYMS and reported on HU12 last week did not initially seem to affect the South West of Holderness. However, the Holderness Gazette reports today that the altered services will no longer pick up and drop passengers off at Ryehill or Bridge Bungalows bus stops.

Jean West, a Thorngumbald Parish Councillor, has organised a petition to urge EYMS to change its mind. The Gazette quotes Councillor West: ”What has really annoyed me is that there have been no notices put up about the buses not stopping at these stops. We just found out by word of mouth.”

The service is due to change on 15th May 2011. People with objections to the proposals or who wish to express their concerns should e-mail them to enquiries@eyms.co.uk and mark the e-mails For the Attention of Bob Rackley, Commercial Manager.

Sheriff’s Highway and Baxtergate Roadworks

THIS WAS THE SCENE down Sheriff’s Highway yesterday.
And the East Riding Council tells us that Baxtergate will be closed to all traffic today for the installation of a new water supply but open for the Emergency Services, pedestrians and for access to properties directly affected by the closure.

The alternative route for traffic will be via Magdalen Lane, Watson Drive, St Anthony’s Park, St Nicholas Gate and Fletchergate, Hedon.

A 24-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman have been arrested in connection with the incident.

The second assault took place at 12:45am. A 30-year-old man was stood in the beer garden at the rear of the pub when he was allegedly punched in the face by another man causing him to fall to the floor. He was then punched several more times whilst on the floor.

As a result of the incident the victim suffered severed tendons in his hand which have required extensive surgery.

The Hedon Local News Hub

THE HEDON LOCAL NEWS HUB is the kernel of an idea – that if brought into fruition – would involve bringing key groups in the town together to provide a positive press news service from – and about – the town.

It would involve those who have news to share – community groups, local businesses – having a clear mechanism available to reach local newspapers and other media organisations.

The creation of a network of citizen-journalists or community reporters would ensure that stories, news and information about the town was dug-out. Those involved would have opportunities to get training and technical support to aid them in that task.

Find out more about this exciting concept over on HU12…
