HELP is on hand for people living in Hedon who want help to take control of their stress and anxiety.

depressionStress is the feeling of being under too much mental or emotional pressure and many day-to-day demands can cause stress, particularly work, relationships and money problems.

A free six-week Stress Control course starts at the Rosedale Centre in Hedon this September to help people learn to cope better with pressures that can build up and cause problems. Run by the Humber NHS Foundation Trust Health Trainers, the course starts on Wednesday 10th September 2014 from 1pm until 3pm and runs for six-weeks, it is open to anyone over the age of 18 who would like to reduce their stress and anxiety.

Kayleigh Warsop, Senior Health Trainer, explained that the course will help people identify their own physical and psychological reactions to stress, how it affects the way they behave and how to reduce the vicious circle that people sometimes find themselves in when it comes to situations that make them anxious.

Rosedale Community Unit sign“There is no cure or magic pill for stress but if we understand the triggers to our stress then we can then start to reduce them,” said Kayleigh.

“As the course is about teaching you to reduce stress, we don’t get anyone standing at the front, speaking out loud or discussing their own personal issues as this would be detrimental rather than useful. Instead, it’s provided in a more seminar-based way including presentations, videos and audio clips.

“There are relaxation exercises and development work for you to do at home that enables you to think about your own personal situation which makes it more beneficial and individual to you.

“We will also look at ways to improve your overall health and well-being, boost your sleep patterns and look at how you can reduce symptoms and feelings of panic.”
