Eastside Gala – “Event to be proud of!”

BP RUFC Fancy Dress 2014 – With thanks to Fozzy for the photo

WEEKS of organising the Eastside Gala resulted in a splendid event at the Saltend Eastside Community Sports ground on Saturday 5th July 2014.

One of the main sporting attractions was a rugby match – but with a difference! Not only did the BP Rugby Union Football Club have to play rugby league rules for the first half, but they also played in fancy dress! And despite the best efforts of Spiderman, Superman, Darth Vader and the other characters, our local heroes lost to charity opponents  the Three Tuns Amateur Rugby League club.

The fun event was hailed a great success by Eastside Manager Dave Gatti who also emphasised the serious fundraising aspect: “This year’s event took on the feel of the old Gala Days and incorporated the already established charity football tournament in aid of the Anthony Nolan Trust and Yorkshire Cancer Research, organised in memory of former local footballers and friends Danny Tidder and Mike Stockdale. They both passed away at such a young age but are always in everyone’s thoughts.”

“Attractions at the Gala included fair rides, Golf Gremlins, Kick it Kenny and fun stalls. Thanks go to all those people and helpers that have spent weeks of their lives organising the event – just too many to mention. Hopefully, the Gala will now become an annual event and one that the area can be extremely proud of!”

Local youngsters James, Archie, Owen, Solomon, Sullivan, Keith, Harry, Tom and Henry were all having great fun organising the goal target practice sideshow!

  1. A message from Eastside:

A Really Big Gala Thank You!!!!

Saturday 5th July saw the sun shine on first of the annual Eastside Galas @ Saltend, which was attended by well over 1,000 people raising over £700 for both the Anthony Nolan Trust and Yorkshire Cancer Research charities (with a final figure being published once all the event sponsorship has been collected) as well as several hundred pounds for our own Eastside Community Sport Trust charity from food and drink sales.

So a massive thank you for all who supported the event and a reminder that Skirlaugh are holding a Dove House charity youth completion this Sunday 13th July, so get there!!!

  2. An appeal for help if parents can help? I’m after the names of the youngsters in the photograph for a photo in the Gazette.

Whilst I noted them down on Saturday, and probably get them mixed up, matters were made worse when the paper I’d written them down on later got soaked in a shower making them harder to read!

So if parents can help put names to 1 to 9 (left to right) it would be most appreciated! 😀

    Please E-MAIL me to hedonblog@gmx.com – thanks!
