HEDON Town Council’s first baking competition on Saturday 8th March, has been a hit amongst contestants with requests that it becomes a bigger and better event next year.

Winner of the best ‘Dessert in a Wine Glass’ entry, Sheila Wallace – who also won the accolade of being the best entry overall for her limoncello recipe – said she hoped it would be a much bigger event next year “with balloons outside, tea and coffee inside and lots more publicity.”
Sally Simpson, who won best cookies and the second-place in the novelty cake category, spends hours in the kitchen and said she really enjoyed taking part in the contest.
There is no doubt the competition sparked lots of interest resulting in hours of baking time being spent creating nearly 30 entries. And the results were marvellous.

The entries were judged by Nutmeg’s Jane Hampshire and viewed by Hedon Mayor John Dennis.
In announcing the results and awarding the winners certificates, Councillor Dennis paid tribute to the contestants for the talent that was on display and also thanked the members of the Town Council’s Events Committee for the time spent organising the event.
The Mayor, perhaps alluding to his lack of baking prowess, said he was glad he wasn’t involved in the judging, and, diplomatically “It’s much too difficult to pick winners from amongst such good entries!” However, coaxed by winner Sheila Wallace he did sample the winning limoncello.
Brilliant …sad i missed it …did Lucy win anything …???
Neil, I’ve been too busy with my Hedon Bake-Off window display to actually bake anything…I’m now too busy doing the spring-clean display to do any proper cleaning lol!
