ST AUGUSTINE’S CHURCH provided Christmas cheer – and a Twirl! – on Saturday with its now annual and traditional festive Market.
Church volunteers were out in force once again raising vital restoration and maintenance funds for the over-800-year-old ‘King of Holderness’, by setting up some 20 festive market stalls.

Mavis Lane and Betty Young are market ‘regulars’ and this year they were caretaking the Teddy Bear stall. Teddies are donated over the year and on Christmas Market day you can buy a ticket with a name on it – you win the Teddy Bear with that name on. Mrs Hedon Blog – Bloggy or Janice to her friends – won ‘Owen’, which she’d donated a few months ago. So welcome back home Owen!
Traditional Christmas piano music was provided once again by Mr Colin Sharp who worked tirelessly throughout the morning, only stopping to allow for the performance by the Hedon Twirlers.
The 27-strong Hedon Twirlers dance troupe are pictured here with Hedon Mayor and Mayoress John and Jennifer Dennis before their act.
Dot Bentley the Branch Organiser told us that the Twirlers meet every Friday for practice at Hedon Methodist Church from 6 – 8pm. They are organised under the auspices of Arena Entertainment arranged by Leanne Gill.
