  1. excellent layout and design, a real tribute to the original Alison Hall.
Food of a reasonable standard , to my pallet …more top class pub grub ….pretending to be a restaurant…..a little overpriced on most things …the belly pork dish is massively overpriced…
service i found to be good , although when staff were explaining things it was a little difficult to hear them properley and to take in all that they were explaining.
I would visit again but would be much more selective on the menu to get value for money.
    overall 6 out of 10 .

  2. My husband and I are regular visitors to Alison Hall. The Manager Chris, assistant Manager Dita and all the serving staff have always been extremely welcoming. The food is very good and as others have said previously this is just what is needed locally. Sunday lunch is now served and it makes a nice change from the usual pub atmosphere. Saturday early evening there is a “Grill offer” and again this is excellent. Please give this place a try you will not be disappointed.

  3. I visited Alison Hall with a friend for an afternoon coffee recently.

We each had a pushchair so asked for assistance to enter the building as the steps to the entrance are not easily accessible to prams or wheelchairs.

The member of staff was not particularly friendly and left us outside in the rain for several minutes before opening up the fire escape with an accessible ramp at the side of the building.

We were told we had to sit in the bar area as we had pushchairs, despite there only being one other customer in tyhe restaurant at the time!

We ordered two coffees which we enjoyed, and then paid at the till. We then asked the waiter who had served us to open the fire exit again, and he said ‘but you havn’t paid yet have you?’ So my friend stated that we had already paid the gentleman at the bar – he would not open the door to let us out, until he marched to the other end of the restaurant to check that we had indeed paid. We were flabergasted that we were not allowed to leave the restaurant (he literally would not unlock the door!) and there were other customers who heard this altrication which wasmost embarrasing.

We regularly eat out in Hedon in the evening and we hoped that this restaurant would become our ‘regular haunt’ However, we genuinly felt that as a customer we were simply an inconvenience to the staff and this left a somewhat sour taste.

We are unlikely to use the restaurant again, which is such a shame, as this is just what Hedon has been needing for sometime. We had originally visited the restaurant with our babies during the day, as a ‘taster’ for a planned evening out with a group of mums. However, we intend to visit a restaurant in Hull this evening rather than spend money in the town, which is very sad.

  4. I visited Alison Hall Restaurant, our table was booked for 7.30. we arrived at 7 and were seated in the waiting area to await our table.

When we initiallly booked we booked for 8, for 3 persons, but then the restaurant rang us back and asked us if we would mind coming earlier but they then recorded us as 2 persons. Which seemed to put them off a little when we arrived.

When we were seated i went to sit in a seat in the ailse and was promptly asked not to sit there to make it easier for the staff (why was there a chair there and a place set if they didn’t want anyone to sit there)

We had already been seated for 20 mins and were looking at a menu whilst there, but after being seated we still had to wait 10 mins and then ask to be able to order.

The restaurant was not busy at this time!

The starters arrived and everything was lovely.

The main course then arrived and we had to ask to be brought our side dishes, after at least 5 mins of waiting, and had to ask for sauces. If the young waitress had taken the trouble to ask if we had everything we needed when she brought the last plate to the table then i am sure this problem could have been avoided. Once again the food was lovely – cold now but lovely.

We then had our plates cleared and at no point were asked if we would like to order coffee or desserts?? We had to request a dessert menu and then catch the attention of someone to order said desserts. After ordering the dessert took 20 mins to arrive.

The food in the restaurant was lovely i can’t fault it, but all of the staff seemed very miserable, and couldn’t raise a smile. This goes from the lady who greeted us and said – its only booked for 2 to the waiting staff, to the gentleman behind the bar who took our money but didn’t ask if everything had been ok.

I live local to the restaurant and am so glad that we now have a place like this. I enjoy dining out regularly, and will visit again, i just hope there is an improvement in the service! If there isn’t then i will be voting with my feet.

  5. We so need another eating place where you can book a table and get good food, I hope everyone in the area supports this place.

    1. This is our second visit to the restaurant. The first visit was first class, no complaints.
Second visit very good except my chicken was raw in the middle. Will give them another go but very disapointing.

  6. First Impressions (10/10)

Alison Hall restaurant is already looking to be a popular new addition to Hedon. I telephoned on the opening day (Monday 24th May) and was politely told that Saturday was fully booked. I opted for a ‘school night’ dinner instead. The restaurant itself is immaculately presented with a small but perfectly formed bar and seating area. The tables in the actual dining room are split between intimate booths around the edges of the hall, which would sit up to 4 people, and regular dinner tables in the middle. There is room to accommodate a large group, but you would be seated at a long table rather than a more sociable circular arrangement. We were greeted by a very welcoming manager.

    Service (9/10)

Friendly and efficient. It would have been nice to have been told the soup of the day and that one of the main dishes had sold out as we were seated…but I suppose that’s a minor detail. The restaurant became busy as the evening progressed, but we were not neglected and we had excellent service.

    The Food (9/10)

We couldn’t fault the flavours and quality of the food. Although, if I’m really pushed, a finger cleaning bowl after the garlic tiger prawn starter would have been welcomed. Also the chicken skewered on lemongrass starter was rather small (only 3 pieces), but I was hungry. The pan fried sea bass was the best I have ever tasted and if it was frozen, it certainly didn’t taste like it. My ‘meat monster’ husband devoured his 10oz rib eye steak, with no complaints. If you order a steak, there is no need to buy additional vegetables or salad because it comes with a salad, onion rings and choice of potatoes. The wine selection was good. It’s also worth noting that ordering regular tap water (to save the planet and your wallet) at no extra cost was not a problem.

    The Verdict

I will definitely go again as there’s lots more things I would like to try. It was a varied menu and will be interested to see it changes with the seasons. I think we have a new gem in Hedon!
