Announcement: HU12 Online ‘trading’

REPRODUCED FROM HU12 ONLINE:

HU12 ONLINE starts ‘trading’ from Wednesday 7th March 2012.

The www.hu12.net website (HU12 Online) will play the role of a ‘hyperlocal’ news agency which will gather and collect local news,  information and events, from – and relevant to – the South Holderness towns and villages.

As well as being published on HU12 Online, the material will be shared with other news providers and also on social-media networks. In this way HU12 will seek to publicise and positively promote the area – whilst not neglecting to report the more contentious issues on occasion. But the focus will be on publicising those smaller community stories and issues that do not normally find their way into mainstream media.

In short the website aims to expand its coverage of local news, information and events financed through the income generated from providing a series of locally useful initiatives:

  • offering low-cost advertising and promotion services for local businesses and organisations;
  • advertising local vacancies on our Jobs page;
  • starting our Shop so that local people can sell or swap items;
  • hosting an Amazon shop;
  • offering simple website creation and management services.

You can find out more about some of these on HU12 Online Commerce.

The results of our trading activities should see HU12 Online (and the Hedon Blog) covering more issues, and in greater depth than ever before.

We ask for our readers continuing support – and please make sure you tell your neighbours and friends about HU12 Online!

Opportunities to add to local debates on HU12 Online

SINCE HU12 ONLINE went officially live on 4th October 2011, it has become the local web-place to discuss the more ‘controversial’ issues affecting the local area and the surrounding villages.

An article about the teachers suspended from South Holderness for allegedly making inappropriate Facebook comments, and the social media campaign waged in their defence, has received much attention and has been picked up by other media organisations. See: Supporters wage social media campaign.

The publication of allowances  paid to East Riding Councillors’ has sparked renewed interest on that subject both in terms of visits to the website, but also debate on our Facebook Page. See: Should Councillors get paid?

And today we summarise the debate on the Boundary Changes as a ‘taster’ to some of the issues that may be discussed at the Public Hearings taking place next week. See: Should SW Holderness be included in the East Hull constituency?

In addition, visits to the What’s On? page has increased as readers discover that the page is for the wider area and not just Hedon. This vindicates the decision to host that page on HU12 Online.

Tell us about YOUR Local Events!

THE WHAT’S ON PAGE lists local events and deadlines and remains one of the Hedon Blog’s (and HU12 Online’s) most popular pages.

If you have a public event, entertainment, activity or fundraising event taking place in the town that you want to advertise, then we can do an article or notice about it and list it on the WHAT’S ON page. This is a FREE service.

Use this opportunity to tell us about your Halloween and Bonfire Night events. Complete the quick and easy online form on the page.

NOTE: We will soon be launching a new PROMOTIONS SERVICE which for a small charge (approx £10) will see your event being specially promoted across the internet and social networks. More on this soon. For details of the new service prior to launch, contact hu12@gmx.com.

Major Emergency Advice from Saltend Chemicals Park (Republished)

FOLLOWING THE RELEASE OF NON-TOXIC VAPOUR from the INEOS plant at Saltend on Monday (26th Sept 2011) and concerns about the non-sounding of the toxic alarm, the Hedon Blog is republishing an article from May 2010 about the Major Emergency Advice booklet distributed that month.

East Riding Affordable Homes

THE FIRST RESIDENTS moving into new homes built by the council, described as “life-time homes”, will be given their keys on Wednesday, 10 November.

Affordable homes in Cliffe Road, Market Weighton, are the first to be finished under an ambitious programme to build 331 similar properties throughout the East Riding.

Meanwhile, the three affordable homes built by the council in Hedon on the site of former garages in Cloeberry Way, Draper’s Lane (pictured, 16th October) are still a few weeks away from being completed.

Local contractors are working on the £46.5m house-building programme funded by East Riding of Yorkshire Council and the Homes and Communities Agency, which has contributed £20.16m.
