Photography Classes Preston Show 2026 – Saturday 8 August.
Hedon Viewfinders Photography Club is delighted to partner with the Preston Show once again to bring the Open Photography Competition to the family fun day on Saturday, August 8, at the Nag’s Head, Sproatley Road, Preston.
There will be four classes of entry, with one aimed specifically at 16-year-olds and under. There are trophies for the winner of each class, which are held for one year. One of these will be our winner of the Photographer of the Year trophy.
You can enter 1 photo in each class. Up to A4 in size, unframed and unmounted.
You can drop your photographs off on the day of the competition BEFORE 10.30am (9am – 10.30am) at the Show Tent. Alternatively, you can enter in advance by bringing your photographs to a Hedon Viewfinders club meeting on Wednesdays (6.45 pm – 7.00 pm).
ANIMALS – Pets, domesticated or UK countryside wildlife.
Whether a cute pet at home, a Highland cow in a field, or a squirrel up a tree, you have a wide choice of subjects in this category. We encourage you to get creative with your photographs whilst at home or on a day out. No wildlife park or zoo shots. No bird photos.
COLOURS.
Colour in a photograph can shape emotion, add meaning and create a visual impact. Your photo should use colour purposefully rather than just being incidental.
BLACK AND WHITE THEME – PEOPLE.
Whether individual portraits or groups in unusual scenes, your job is to capture people and use the lack of colour to full dramatic effect.
16 YEARS OLD AND UNDER COMPETITION – BEST PHOTOGRAPH FROM ABOVE THEMES.
16-year-olds and under should enter their best photo from the themes above: Animals, Colours or Black & White – people. Under-16s should only enter this class. One photo only. Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
As well as the exhibition of competition entries and winning photographs in the show tent, this year we intend to bring more photography activities to this year’s Preston Show. Keep this post bookmarked for updates.
