Cartoon Town Crier Hedon Jubilee Proclamation

WHILST LOCAL social media bubbles are alive with news of local #PlatinumJubilee #QE70 #HM70 events, in Hedon, the town council is doing it old school with an official Town Crier Hedon Jubilee proclamation of the celebrations.

Donning the traditional Town Crier’s costume for one-day-only will be Councillor John Dennis who will make the official announcements in Hedon Market place on Thursday 5 June 2022 at 2pm.

Come and show your support for the town’s traditional crier!

In medieval times the Town Crier would be the main source of news for local people. The clergy would quite often play this role too at church. However, it would be the job of the Crier to announce official news, proclamations, bylaws and any other important information. After the announcement, the notice would be attached to a post on a central building – hence today we get the phrase ‘posting a notice’ or ‘making a post’.

On his proclamation list, Town Crier Dennis will announce the Hedon Platinum Jubilee Celebrations which include the Lighting of the Beacon Event on Thursday, #Hedfest22 on Friday, Celebration Concert on Saturday night and Civic Parade and Church Service on Sunday.

You can get all your Jubilee and #Hedfest22 information too, at a stall in the marketplace today (Wed 1 June 2022).

  1. The normalTown Crier who had a prior engagement, actually acquired his own costume to his size.
But, thanks for your kind words Ray. As they say, that suit could tell some tales!
