“A Celebration of 25 Years of Hedon Museum 1996 – 2021”.

A NEW PUBLICATION on sale at Hedon Museum provides a fascinating insight into the eight years of campaigning and fundraising that was carried out by the Hedon Museum Society prior to the Hedon Museum being opened on 28 September 1996.

“A Celebration of 25 Years of Hedon Museum 1996 – 2021” describes itself as An hotchpotch of Hedon (Museum) History. It’s a good description, with many historical articles that include one on Hedon’s Silver Mace, another on Inman’s Farm and its dog training school, a reproduction of adverts from some of Hedon’s lost businesses, and a piece on Havenside Mill. The booklet is filled throughout with articles and features historic photographs and reproductions of some of the museum’s own publicity posters.

With a foreword from the current Hedon Mayor and Museum President Councillor Sarah Rommell and an introduction to the early history of the museum by Dr Martin Craven, the booklet’s main purpose, however, is to feature the work done by those entering the 25th-anniversary competitions organised by the museum last year including the Schools Writing Competition (Hedon and Inmans Primary Schools), Design Competition (Holderness Academy) and the Photographic Competition (open to all).

“A Celebration of 25 Years of Hedon Museum 1996 – 2021” is available to buy for £5 from the Museum.

The publication itself is currently being brought to life by the Museum’s exhibition 25 Years of Hedon Museum open every Saturday and Wednesday from 10am – 4pm with the last day being Saturday, 23 April 2022.
