HEDON TOWN COUNCIL will hear all about plans to use Little Haven Farm in Hedon as a learning centre to help people understand farming and animals.

A planning application has been submitted to change the use of land and buildings to a petting farm, camping and caravan site and dog agility field. Hedon Town Council will hear about the plans at its Planning Committee meeting on Thursday (14 October 2021).

The supporting documentation from the applicants says that the idea is “inspired by a childhood love of farming, animals and agriculture, teamed with a passion for education, Little Haven Farm’s vision is to open our doors to the public, work hand in hand with local schools to allow young and old alike to learn about animals, farming and the relationship from field to plate in the most eco-friendly and ‘hands on’ way possible.” The applicants have sought support from the local primary schools.

The application also includes proposals to develop facilities for camping and caravanning and suggests it would provide a boost to tourism in the local area.

The application documents are available to view at the East Riding Public Access website and search for reference 21/01848/PLF.

  1. HEDON TOWN COUNCIL last night agreed to support the application from Little Haven Farm.

The applicants had presented their case to councillors in private session before the public meeting. However, during the public session last night a councillor sought further clarification on the type of ‘caravanning’ anticipated. The applicants, who were still present, confirmed that it would be touring caravans that would be facilitated and up to 12 pitches were available on two sites. Parking on the two sites was available but only by booking in advance, but visitors to the camp site would be encouraged to walk or use public transport.

The recommendation from Hedon Town Council to approve the application will be sent to the East Riding of Yorkshire Council planning department for determination.
