Guides:
LOCAL GUIDE LEADER Stacy Lister held a tombola stall in Hedon Market in August. Just one of the many events organised throughout the year to help keep the local guides functioning.
Girlguiding is the leading charity for girls and young women in the UK, with over 320,000 members, and 80,000 volunteers. A whole host of information on the Guides is available on their national website. This includes information about adults getting involved as volunteers. Visit: www.girlguiding.org.uk.
Vintage Bikes:
VINTAGE MOTORCYCLE CLUB (VMC) members were in Hedon on Sunday 29 August for a meet-up at the Haven Arms and a rideout across Holderness. There were 26 riders at the event which was hosted by the East Yorkshire section of VMC although attended by members from across the whole of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. Members of the public turned out to look at the bikes including local photographers from Hedon Viewfinders.
A spokesman for the VMC reported that the rideout to Stone Creek and Sunk Island had been a dry one despite gloomy skies at times. And fortunately, not a single bike had broken down despite a few needing a push start to get going. Thanks were given to the staff of the Haven Arms for the welcome meal afterward and for the hospitality.
KingsFest:
THE SPIRIT OF #HEDFEST (Hedon’s annual festival) was captured on Sunday, August 29 at the King’s Head in the town. The pub had staged their own #KINGSFEST. With live entertainment throughout the afternoon and evening, the beer garden was constantly full of people.
The pub has captured the fun of the day on its Facebook page, but rather than just posting photos, the pub has used the social network to maximum effect asking customers to have their photos taken with a specially made King’s Head frame, and taking a myriad of other shots and videos throughout the day. So it wasn’t just the performers that were the stars, but the visiting public too. You enjoy the day and then visit the Facebook page later to re-visit the fun.
The integration of live events with social media is something the King’s Head licensee Jasmin Minns and partner Tom Croft seem to be doing very well to the delight of their customers.

The Culture Train (Gig at the Church):
IT WAS a full house at St. Augustine’s Church, Hedon on Saturday for The Culture Train. Artists and singer-songwriters Jim Danby, Imogen Hart, and Matthew Barratt offered some unique musical talent earlier in the evening, while bands Sandra’s Wedding and Hedon’s own Cuba Drive upped the tempo later on.
As well as offering original songs and music curated by music promoter Chris Warkup, the evening was an opportunity for the church to raise some much-needed funds through the sale of raffle tickets and donations for refreshments.
The next Culture Train gig is at St Mary’s Church in Cottingham on Saturday, 2 October 2021 with Carrie Martin, the Happy Endings, The Listening Club, Work in Progress, and Ellie Pollard.
