REV. SUE PULKO has praised the work of the St. Augustine’s Pantry in Hedon.
“The Pantry is open every Thursday 10.30 am -12.30 pm at the church,” she said. “Up to 15 store cupboard items are available every week to collect. We often have cleaning products, chilled food and fresh fruit and vegetables available. Many thanks from of all of us here at the Pantry for these kind donations. We wouldn’t be here without our donors!”

The Tressell Trust has carried out research (State of Hunger – November 2019) into increasing food use of food services in the UK. They found that the key drivers of usage were widespread problems with the benefits system accounting for two-thirds of people who have needed emergency food. Ill health and challenging life experiences like eviction or divorce also push many people into poverty. Many users of food services either don’t have or have exhausted formal, family or other informal support options. This is why there should be no fear or shame or stigma attached to using a food service. Turning towards those who can help is a positive step!
