East Riding of Yorkshire Council will be holding public consultation events about its proposals to build a new crematorium in the Holderness area, near Preston.
On Tuesday, 25 August 2020, from 1pm – 7.30pm, a drop-in event will be held at Preston Community Hall for anyone with an interest in the proposed development to attend.
Some initial design impressions developed for the proposed crematorium will be on display and representatives from the council will be available to answer any questions.
Due to COVID-19, access to the event will be managed to ensure safe social distancing and visitors will be required to wear face coverings.
On Wednesday, 26 August, at 9.30am and 6pm, and on Thursday, 27 August, at 12noon, people can join a public consultation session to hear from council representatives about the proposed crematorium and ask questions. Due to COVID-19, these events are being held virtually via the online video conferencing platform, Zoom.
The council is also running an online survey to gather feedback on the proposed crematorium development. The closing date for the survey is Sunday, 6 September.
“We are keen to involve the local community in the planning stages of our proposal to build a new crematorium in the Holderness area and would like to encourage people to be involved in the consultation on the proposals in order to capture their feedback and help us develop our vision for the facility,” said Councillor Richard Burton, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
“The new crematorium would offer numerous benefits to local residents, businesses and communities. It would provide a place for people living in the Holderness area to remember their loved ones, local to where they live, in a beautiful and tranquil facility.”
The initial design impressions, details of how to access the online Zoom sessions and the online survey will be available from Monday, 24 August at promoted via the council’s social media channels, including Facebook and Twitter.

Why are they putting forward a green field site instead of utilising a brownfield site?
ERYC are forever paying lip service to trying to alleviate the traffic nightmare happening everyday through our village. How does this proposed building serving well over 100,000 residents achieve this intention?
It is proposed to operate Mon – Fri with the flexibility to operate on a Saturday – mostly outside of peak times – with an HGV designated route through Preston, an ERYC Waste Site and the South Holderness Academy – could ERYC specify exactly when is considered NOT to be a peak time?
A Crematorium to the East of Hull is sorely needed but to site it at the Lelley crossroads defies all logic in terms of road traffic safety.
