VE 75 – Mark the 75th Anniversary of Victory in Europe!

THE special programme of events marking the 75th Anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE 75) that was scheduled to take place over the Bank Holiday weekend starting from Friday, 8 May 2020 has been cancelled – but that doesn’t mean we can’t still mark VE 75.

Hedon Town Council is suggesting that people decorate their homes and gardens, perhaps in red, white and blue, to mark the event and each household can organise its own lockdown party, and, if the weather is good – garden parties too!

The rules still apply and you can’t invite anyone from outside your household to your party but people can join up online and we can all observe the VE 75 ‘National Toast to the Heroes’ at 3pm when hundreds of thousands of people across the country will repeat the toast “To those who gave so much, We thank You!”

Best Dressed House Competition!

Hedon Town Council is running a competition to find the best-dressed house (and/or garden) on Friday, May 8. Take photos of your decorations and party and send the photos through to townclerk@hedon.gov.uk including your name, address and telephone number by Monday 11 May.

There will be some prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place chosen by the Mayor – but this is not about prizes, it is about showing as a town that we can still mark an important event in the spirit of those who came before us in the second world war – and we can still have fun too!
