Paper poppy wreaths remembranceJUST before sunset on Wednesday 11th, November 2015, children from local schools and nurseries gathered to pay their own paper poppy tribute as part of the Remembrance Day commemorations.

Children from Hedon and Inmans Primaries, local Brightstart nurseries, joined others from Thorngumbald Primary in laying paper poppy wreaths at the war memorial in Hedon cemetery. Each of the poppy wreaths had been made by the children from the above schools (and Market Hill nursery) during the last few days, each with tributes attached written by the children.

Sarah Byrne from the Brightstart @ The Hut nursery explained that the children had made the wreaths after learning about what Remembrance Day was all about. “It’s about remembering those who died in the war,” said one of the children, “and those who got hurt” said another “and those who are still looking after us” said one more.

With the sun quickly going down, representatives of each of the schools placed their wreaths amongst the others already dressing the memorial.
