THE 668th Hedon Mayor ends his year in office today – we look back, via a few photographs taken in Hedon, of Councillor John Dennis and Mayoress Mrs Jennifer Dennis.

It has been a busy year for the couple – and these photos do not take into account the dozens of events that have taken place outside of Hedon where the Mayor and Mayoress have been acting as ambassadors for the town.

We look forward to the Mayor Elect, Councillor Neil Black, taking office tonight and becoming our new 669th Mayor of the ancient Borough of Hedon.

Year in Office in Photos:

We’ll start at the end! These first photos represent the Mayor’s Charity Fund donations which eventually will represent the distribution of £3,500, with the largest single donation being £2,000 to Prostate Cancer UK. Those cheques presented to date amount to:

  • Prostate Cancer UK c/o Mr Alan Stirling – £2,000
  • St. Augustine’s Church c/o Rev. Jon Wright – £500
  • Help for Heroes c/o Major (Retired) John Groome – £175
  • Hedon Youth Group – £200
  • Hedon Guides – £200
  • Hedon Museum Society c/o Chairman Gordon Rutherford – £500

And just a small selection of the events, presentations and functions attended during 2014-15:

Congratulations to John and Jennifer Dennis on a successful year in office. But we can now bring you the news that this is not the end of the couple wearing Civic Chains of Office!

John Dennis, as an East Riding of Yorkshire Councillor, has been elected as the Vice Chairman of the East Riding for 2015-16, and on occasion will deputise for the new Chairman of the East Riding Councillor Peter Turner.

Today we are proud to publish the first pictures of the Hedon couple wearing their new Chains of Office – we wish them well in representing the best interests of the East Riding.
