Preston (South) Parish Councillors

PRESTON Parish Council (South Ward) is not taking part in a parish election this year on 7th May 2015 because there were only two nominations received for the three seats available which means no contest.

The two new councillors taking their seats are Tracy Lister and Geoff Bell. That means a further election for a new councillor will have to be held or (if residents don’t request an election) a new councillor co-opted from those who express an interest.

We aim to cover the meetings of Preston Parish Council on HU12 Online but there is a prior commitment from the council to hold at least two council meetings a year in the Preston South Ward.

A parish council is the tier of elected local democracy that is closest to the people. As well as the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, which regularly refers to parish councils for their opinions on matters, various external organisations seek their views too.

In many ways individual parish councillors strive to champion the views of local people they represent. Quite often the work that they undertake is behind the scenes, unsung and unrecognised. Yet it is a valuable role within the community. With this in mind it is timely to offer congratulations to Tracy Lister and Geoff Bell on being elected.

Important Note: Elections are still taking place in Preston South on 7th May 2015 to vote for your three Ward Councillors from amongst eight candidates and your Member of Parliament from amongst six candidates.

The polling booth for Preston South registered voters (a temporary unit) will be set up in the Kingstown Hotel car park and will be open from 7am – 10pm.
