HEDON Group Practice patients who are worried about memory loss can benefit from a Memory Test.

Question MarksThe latest practice newsletter describes the Memory Test as a 20 minute long assessment that takes you through a set of standard questions the results of which will help a doctor determine if you have a memory problem.

If the test does indicate a memory problem further action can be taken to confirm this and advice can be obtained on services available to help (including those offered by the Alzheimer’s Society in the local area). Of course the test may also give you the peace of mind and reassurance that you haven’t got a memory problem!

The Alzheimer’s Society says that there are over 8,000 people with dementia in the Hull and East Riding area. The word ‘dementia’ describes a range of symptoms that may include memory loss, difficulties with thinking, problem-solving or language. Dementia is caused when the brain is damaged by diseases. It often goes undiagnosed until the difficulties become really apparent, yet early diagnosis albeit distressing can help someone better cope with the symptoms.

The recent Hull Humber Mouth Literature Festival saw the commissioning of a special e-book Butterflies and Battlefields on the impacts that dementia can have on families. Written by David Windass with photographs by Jerome Whittingham it is a powerful publication that should spur people into action should they suspect they have problems with their memory.
