Hedon Cenotaph
Monday 4th August at 5pm

4th AUGUST 2014: To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of World War One, Hedon Town Council is to hold a short service at the Hedon cenotaph at the Cemetery on Ivy Lane.

At 5pm a ‘Peace Rose’ will be planted and the Reverend Gordon Smethurst will say prayers and read out the names of Hedon people who lost their lives during the Great War.

Hedon Town Council has issued an invitation for residents to attend this memorial event.

Take part in #LightsOut!

Everyone in the UK is invited to take part in #LightsOut by turning off their lights from 10pm to 11pm on Monday 4th August, (10pm is one hour before the actual time the UK joined the First World War) leaving on a single light or candle for a shared moment of reflection on the 100 year anniversary of the First World War.

Millions of people are expected to participate in #LightsOut and hundreds of local authorities, iconic buildings, national organisations including the BBC and Royal British Legions, parish councils and places of worship will also be getting involved. National landmarks buildings including Blackpool illuminations, the Houses of Parliament, Eden Project, the Imperial War Museums and Tower Bridge will also turn off their lights.
