The National Garden Scheme (NGS) which sees normally private gardens being open for the public to visit, resulted in over £134,000 being raised last year for charity and a total of £2.5m being donated to ten different charities. This year, there are over 50 gardens in East Yorkshire that will be opened to the public, and OMEGA in Hedon will be one of those.

The Hedon Blog met enthusiastic and passionate gardeners Derek and Mavis Rosindale from OMEGA last year after winning the Hedon in Bloom competition. We said this about the garden last year:

“It’s a garden of new discoveries around every ‘corner’; from the topiary sculptured hedging of the front garden, the back-garden with its enticing views that draw you in, to the surprise garden, orchard, wildlife and working area at the rear.”

NGS Description for 2014: Front garden formalised by box hedging has densely planted borders. Small shady side garden which leads to patio with pots. Herbaceous borders are followed by shady areas and a large area of plant sales, greenhouses and newly planted orchard. The mini-meadow is a work in progress. A garden with diverse range of perennials, hostas, ferns and trees. Wildlife friendly.

Cream Teas, beverages and cakes available. Afternoon Tea can be booked in advance by telephone. Large range of perennial plants for sale including hostas, succulents and some bedding plants.

Admission £2.50. Visitors also welcome by appointment June to July, for groups of 10 to 20.
