DON’T FORGET that the CRICKET SEASON has started! Malc Ripley, who will not be reporting on the local matches this season, has provided us with a preview of the local games tomorrow:

cricket wickets ballWeather permitting, the local teams are hopeful of getting this newly revamped season up and running this weekend.

AT HOME: South Holderness CC – 1st XI V Hill Top CC – 1st XI – 1:30pm.

The First Team at South Holderness Cricket Club, who disappointed somewhat last term, entertain the strong-looking all-round Hill Top CC outfit at Middle Lane, Hedon.

The home side will have to be at the top of their game, to clinch a victory, and will be looking to skipper Rich Ingram and the long serving Mike Oliver to help post a decent total, coupled with the all round ability of Lewis Duell.

The Hedon club have suffered the loss of young, former Head Coach and left arm fast bowler Connaire Brattan, who has joined Pocklington CC this time, as a result of taking a sports degree at a York college.

SHCC will be wanting to dismiss their opponents prolific opener Laurence Wilkinson to have any chance of registering a win. He enjoyed a superb 2013 season, as he took most attacks apart to amass some 1,100 runs.

AWAY: Pelican CC – 1st XI  V  South Holderness CC – An XI – 2pm

In division three of the Eastern Conference, the An Xl have a short trip into east Hull, to take on Pelican CC, at Lambwath Road, Hull although both teams performances were somewhat variable last season, as the visitors efforts fell away after they looked championship material during the early season last time.

It is hoped that veteran Steve Crane, former Humbleton all-rounder Ian Harrison and Chris White, all of whom managed a “ton” in 2013, can score sufficient runs again to post decent totals, in their 18 matches.

Note: Both teams only have 18 games this season (previous seasons it has been 22).
