Hedon Inks and Toners closing down
Hedon Inks & Toners closing down

JUST OVER a year since opening in August 2012, Hedon Inks & Toners in Market Place is holding its closing-down sale. It’s obviously bad news for owner Gav Bromyard who says, “Unfortunately its purely down to lack of customers coming in through the door and having to supplement the overheads from other sources.”

Gav will continue to trade online at www.hedoninks.co.uk.

In contrast Bernice Abey at the Sweetpea’s Boutique in George Street says that business is going well. Selling clothes and children’s clothes, hair accessories and jewellery, Bernice puts the success of the shop down to getting the price right and being one of the most child-friendly places in town. “At the moment there’s nothing for sale over £15,” she says, and being a young mum herself, “I love the kids coming into the shop, I think I sometimes get on better with them than the adults!”

Bernice was speaking to us on the day of the shop’s Coffee Morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and a group of other young mums were enjoying Bernice’s home-made cakes and engaged in an excited discussion about the merits of setting up a new business – two of the mums were doing precisely that by setting up their own cleaning company Clutter Busters (more about that later this week, look out for the fledgling new business at the Market on Wednesday). The independence and flexibility of being your own boss could certainly fit in around being a busy mum they claimed.

In other news about local shops, Hedon Town Council at its meeting on Thursday give mention to Style Finders hairdressers on the improvements made to the shop’s facade. The council is conducting a campaign to encourage town centre businesses to improve their frontages in an effort to enhance the historic and pretty character of the shopping area. Councillors were delighted with the improvements at Style Finders and agreed to write to the shop owners with the Town Council’s compliments.
