It proved to be a good weekend for the Hedon-based teams, as they both recorded what turned out to be easy victories, to give a timely boost for the Club.

Cricket stumps bat and ballThe First team travelled to North Ferriby CC, to finish with a comprehensive ten wicket victory, as the opening pair knocked off 188 without loss, with comparative ease. This success lifts them up to sixth place in the E Y Alliance Premier division.

The An XI, entertaining previous York Eastern Conference division 2 table toppers Hull Zingari III, in what transpired to be a low scoring encounter, at Middle Lane, did well to inflict a first seasonal defeat on the Hull Club, despite the home side only totalling 109 themselves.

The An XI total, being thanks mainly to Liam Colclough making a sound unbeaten 19, together with Club newcomer this term, Graham Slinger, with his 14, as only this pair reached double figures. For the losers, Tim Price and Joe Morton had identical figures of 3 for 24, but their efforts turned out to be in vain.

Star of the show, for the home side, was another newcomer to the Hedon side’s ranks this term, in former Humbleton CC all-rounder, Ian Harrison, who wreaked havoc with the ball, with his devastating seven over spell claiming 7 wickets for only 9 runs, easily the best SHCC figures of the season to date.

Andy Kunkel lent support at the other end with 3 for 21 in a seven over stint, resulting in the visitors crashing to a meagre 33 all out, with only Tim Hales (14) playing a lone role.

Jane Brooks Law, of St. Augustine’s Gate, Hedon were the SHCC Match Ball Sponsors.

This result gives the second team their fourth win of the campaign, together with three Draws, and just a single reverse to Newport CC, with their season practically at the half way stage already. The An Xl thus return to the top of their division 2 table, with a cushion of seven points over Zingari, but their rivals have a match in hand, as Holderness are without a fixture next weekend, before they return to action at Kings Mill Road, at Driffield CC, on Sunday 23rd June.

As the playing season quickly reaches its halfway stage, spectators will have to travel to watch their favourite old-established Club’s efforts, as there will be no League cricket at Middle Lane over 22nd and 23rd of June, with the Seniors making a short journey to the Hull University ground to face a usually strong Hill Top CC, on the Saturday.

JUNIOR RESULTS:

Under 13’s: SHCC 79 for 3 in 20 overs, ( Finn Riley 20 n.o. , Ann Bailey 2 for 2 ) lost to Cottingham CC Girls by 5 wickets,
82 for 5 off 17 overs, ( Alice Johnson 17 n.o., Danny Barker 2 for 12 off 2 overs.)

Under 15’s: SHCC 40 for 6 off 20 overs, ( Luke Ingram 16 n.o., Matt Busfield 3 for 4 off 3 overs), lost to Driffield CC, by 118 runs. Driffield 158 for 3 off 20 overs, (Issac Wilks 32 n.o., Andy Rogers 32 retired, Matt Besford 30 ret.).
