Town Hall venueHEDON TOWN COUNCIL has a vacancy for a new Councillor due to the resignation of Sarah Jordan.

Sarah had not been a regular attendee at the meetings for some time and notified the council recently that she could not give the role the commitment it deserves.

A by-election to elect a new councillor will be held if 10 or more electors from Hedon request this. Those wanting to claim an election need to write requesting one to the Chief Executive of East Riding of Yorkshire Council at County Hall, Beverley, East Yorkshire, HU17 9BA, by Wednesday 6th March 2013.

If an election is not requested by the 6th, then Hedon Town Council can co-opt a member from those residents that may have expressed an interest in becoming a councillor.

Those wanting to discuss the role of a councillor can contact the Town Clerk, Mrs Joanna Richardson at e-mail townclerk@hedon.gov.uk or telephone 01482 898428 at the Town Hall from 9:00am to 3:00pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Note: There is a commitment in taking on the role of Councillor which involves attending meetings and sub-committee meetings, preparing for meetings and involvement in the governance of the town; Hedon Town Council regularly holds three sub-committee meetings in one night. You can find out more about the Town Council and its responsibilities via its website.

  1. I would be interested, but as a student away in Lincoln I am only back in Hedon on the weekend and occasional days in the week. Which is a shame as I think highly of my home town and would like to become more involved in it.

  2. Hi John, As a sprightly semi-retired 52 year old, I would be very interested. I’ll contact Joanna to discuss the process and commitment level required to represent the town.

  3. It would be great to have interest shown from younger people for the position of new councillor. The average age of present members is well over 65. Come and give us some fresh ideas!
