Jonathan Andrew Young, 18, of the 3rd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment (Duke of Wellington’s), was killed in Afghanistan on Thursday 20th August.
Jonathan, along with Sgt Paul McAlees, was killed following two explosions that happened while both men were on a foot patrol in Sangin District, Helmand Province on Thursday morning.
My heart goes out to family friends Angie his Mam, Carl his brother, Mike his Dad, Fred and Val his grandparents, Uncle Andrew, Aunties Tina and Debbie.
I knew Jonathan when he was little but met him again last summer just before he joined his regiment and had a drink with him and his grandad. He was a smashing lad who represented the very best of his family and his city.
Comments from Johnathan’s comrades and commanding officers can be found at the Ministry of Defence News statement.
His Mam and family said:
“John was so handsome. He was a good son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and boyfriend. He will be loved and missed by all who knew him. We were so proud of our John, he was our brave heart, our Johnny Bravo. Night night Johnny Bravo.”
Jonathan’s friends have set up two facebook pages for him at:
