Preston affordable homes plan would irreversibly change area

EAST RIDING COUNCIL proposals to build new homes in Manor Road, Preston, look set to be kicked out at a Planning Committee meeting at County Hall, Beverley on Monday.

The planning application to build 20 ‘affordable dwellings’ to be rented out by

Manor Road Preston

the council, is to be discussed by the Eastern Area Planning Sub-Committee on Monday 14th June. Council officers are recommending that the scheme is refused on the grounds that the development would “irreversibly change the character of the street scene and the area in general”.

Council officers in their report (3mb, PDF, page 200) to be submitted to the meeting on Monday have accepted that there is a need to provide affordable housing in Preston and that 20 new homes would contribute to that need. However, they consider that the proposed site is not suitable for the scale of the development being proposed. And in this instance “the need to provide affordable housing is not sufficient to outweigh the detrimental harm caused to the rural character and appearence of the street scene”.

Over 200 letters of objection  to the scheme have been received by the council from local residents concerned about the scale of the development and its impact on local services and the environment. Many of these objectors are expected to attend the meeting on Monday.

Cloeberry Way Housebuilding update

The proposal to build 3 houses on Cloeberry Way goes before the Council’s Eastern Area Planning Sub-Committee on Monday 22nd March 2010.

The recommendation is that the decision is delegated to council officers who have the power to approve the application unless expected consultation responses to the plans and flood risk assessment raise any new matters not already considered by the Council.

It has been acknowledged that the loss of parking provision could cause inconvenience to local residents. The planning application (i.e. the Council) has to demonstrate that the loss of parking is “acceptable” and that adequate provision is available elsewhere.

Four letters of objection have been received by the Council and a petition containing 15 names and addresses also objected to the proposal.

Hedon Park and Ride Planning Application

THE PARK AND RIDE proposed by Hull City Council for the former Hedon Airfield site has now reached the Outline Planning Application stage and will be considered by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council Planning process.

A consultation event was held on the 15th July the findings (PDF file) of which concluded that an overwhelming majority agreed with the principle of a Park and Ride facility and its proposed location.

The proposed development will have 650 car parking spaces and will be accessible via a new roundabout built on Hull Road.

Planning Application for off-shore wind farm cable network and sub-station

having-your-sayGRAHAM STUART, MP for Beverley and Holderness, is encouraging people who live in the Hedon area to attend a public event.

Power generation company E.ON is hosting the event on Wednesday 11th November to show people details of a major planning application in the area.

Off-shore wind farmThe company, which plans to build a major off-shore wind farm, now needs to get planning permission for the cables which will bring power ashore to a dedicated sub-station.

E.ON already run 21 wind farms and are planning to expand both on-shore and off-shore wind generation.

Graham Stuart made this statement yesterday about the plans:

I have met with representatives from E.ON who have shown me the planned route for the underground cables and the location of the sub-station. I fully support the provision of renewable energy generation and an off-shore wind farm should have the least impact on the people of Holderness than those on shore. The company still needs to connect that wind farm to the National Grid, however, and the plans appear to have been well prepared and should have a minimal effect on those living and working in the area.”

The E.ON open day is due to take place at Hedon Town Hall, St Augustine’s Gate, Hedon, HU12 8EX on November 11 between 1pm and 8pm.

View local planning applications on East Riding Council Website.

DESPITE being a regular online browser of information on the East Riding of Yorkshire Council website I am still discovering new facilities.

One of the most obvious ways to get the most out of the council website is to click myeastriding and put your post code into the search box. You then have nine options to find out local information. Whilst “my events” delivered sparse results for Hedon, the search for “my planning” was altogether more productive.

I found two interesting planning applications; one for the erection of a cafe/bar at Johnson’s on Thorn Road Corner and another for the building of a 420 place school building at Inmans Primary School following the demolition of the existing building.

You can even give your own comments about planning applications online.
