August Bank Holiday ‘goings on’

PAULL SCARECROW FESTIVAL must surely be the most unusual event taking place over this long Bank Holiday Weekend  on Monday 29th August 2011. Click the image for more information.

Scaring crows is not our only past time of course! The Vineyard at the Shakespeare Inn, Hedon is reportedly putting on more live music at 5pm – 7pm on Sunday (Sunday 28th August) - with a timely interval to buy barbecued food. This photo is from the last gig there featuring the P45′s.

Mark Hawksworth @TheLandlord  tells us on Twitter that the Haven Arms has a Hedon World Beer Festival over the long weekend with “loads of lagers and fruity beers on draft!”

ONLY THE BRAVEST CROWS will be flying around Paull on Bank Holiday Monday 29th August as the Annual Paull Scarecrow Festival takes place.

Paull and its vibrant village community have all helped make the Paull Scarecrow Festival a major local attraction. You can pick up a map (small cost) on the day from the Village Hall which shows the number and location of each scarecrow. You can use the map to vote for your favourite.

The Scarecrow Festival is not only a fun way to involve the local community –  it also brings many visitors to the village and provides some fantastic photo opportunities!

If you do take any photos of the scarecrows and want to share them here on the Hedon Blog then we can add them to our online gallery (see 2010). Also we’d like to print off some of the best and present a collage of them to the Paull Village Hall as a record of the 2011 Festival – and as a way of saying ‘Thank You” to the village for organising such an entertaining event!

You can find everything you need to know about the Festival at the Paull Village Hall website at the Scarecrow Festival 2011.

Photo Contest closes next month

WHAT IS THE EAST RIDING? Answers in a photograph please!

Is the East Riding a series of beautiful landscapes – the picture postcard East Riding? Or is it the people, their activities and their quirkiness that characterises and depicts the area?

These are the questions posed by the East Riding’s Cultural Partnership in their Capturing the East Riding Photo Competition. The photo competition is already under way and the closing date is fast approaching – Friday the 30th September 2011.

The Hedon Blog would love to see images from this part of Holderness amongst the winners!

The Hedon Blog has a page dedicated to the photo contest where you can find out more. And if you wish you can send your digital images to us first at e-mail hedonblog@gmx.com and we can preview them on the blog for you.

If you want some inspiration to get out and about with your camera – then visit the Online Gallery at the official competition website.  There are some stunning images!! … Now where’s that camera?

Paull Scarecrow Festival – a success!
