If you have any local news or information (openings, re-locations, closures, special offers, etc) that you wish to communicate, then contact us at hu12@gmx.com

HU12 Business Pages

Business Pages ImageLOCAL BUSINESSES based in the HU12 postcode area can now promote their premises and website for FREE and easily via our Business Pages.

The company details stored in the Business Pages will be regularly used for ease and convenience by the Hedon Blog when referring to those businesses. When a company moves or changes its website then this will need only one change to be made on the business page, rather than having links on the Hedon Blog which may be out of date.

You can add your company details to the Business Pages easily using the new simple-to-complete online form on that website.

Hedon’s unofficial ‘library’

QUESTION: WHAT HAVE the following books got in common?

ANSWER: They have all been bought from the Dove House Charity Shop in Hedon – most of them costing far less than £2.50! The links to the books above are given to demonstrate what they would really cost if bought from a commercial seller.

The books listed above are only a small selection of the wide variety purchased from the shop – to read, or as gifts – during the last 12 months. To an avid reader, the Dove House Shop can become as popular as the local library.

Of course it is also good to know that your purchases are helping to sustain a popular charity and good cause in the Dove House Hospice – and once you have read a book you can pass it on to someone else to enjoy, or indeed donate it back to the shop!

If you haven’t visited the Dove House Shop for a while – then give it a whirl – you will be surprised by the quality of goods (not just books of course) on offer.

Silver lining in the cloud as Halifax closes

THE HALIFAX AGENCY based at John Dennis, Chartered Surveyor and Estate Agent premises in Hedon, closed yesterday. The prospect of closure had prompted anger from local residents and Halifax customers and led to a petition and a campaign in opposition.

John Dennis, has released the following statement about the closure. The statement contains good news about enhanced replacement services being put in place at the 21, St Augustine’s premises:

“I know the closure of the HALIFAX Agency at my office has come as quite a blow to our many customers – and of course to my firm and its staff, however it isn’t all bad news.

After serving the Halifax for 10 years at our office in St. Augustine’s Gate in Hedon, I was informed, in July, by the powers that be within the Lloyds Banking Group that they no longer wish to continue using independent agencies in locations such as this. So we, along with 249 others around the country are having that contract terminated, our agency being ended with effect from 14th October. Bad news, not only for us and our staff, but also those many faithful customers who have relied upon the Halifax for so long.

However I’ve not allowed the grass to grow beneath my feet and have been successful in securing an agency with the Santander Bank, who have been actively seeking out around 100 of the most successful Halifax Agents and recruiting them to their brand. This means that our old customers can continue to come into the office and carry out their banking as they always have, simply by opening an account with our new bank.

Sirius – Runner-up in National Award

Sirius Website Image

SIRIUS BUSINESS ADVICE CENTRE just missed out on an Annual Award reports the Holderness Gazette this week.

The National Federation of Enterprise Agencies (NFEA) named Sirius as the runner-up in its Award for Small Agency of the Year. The National Enterprise Awards ceremony was hosted by snooker star Willie Thorne at the Barclays sponsored 2010 NFEA Annual Conference gala dinner held in Nottingham on the 22nd September.

“The National Enterprise Award for Small Agency of the Year was an extremely competitive category…” says the NFEA website. “Also called ‘Punching above Your Weight’, the judges were looking for exactly that; organisations with a turnover up to £250,000 that have a big impact on their local communities, despite their smaller size.”

The Hedon Blogger visited Sirius on St Augustine’s Gate last year to discuss ideas for this Blog and found the advice very useful. Congratulations Sirius on getting so close to winning!
