Cash Machine being replaced at Hedon Co-op

THE CASH MACHINE at the big Co-op on Hull Road, Hedon has been taken out and is being replaced.

The machine is expected to be out of action for approximately one week according to a notice posted at the store.

This is probably not a perfect time for the town to be down on one ATM, considering that Friday 9th September is expected to be a busy business day because of the Hedon International Market.

Hedon Crime Prevention Event

HEDON NEIGHBOURHOOD POLICE OFFICERS are holding a crime prevention day in the Co-op car park on Hull Road, Hedon on Saturday 25th June 2011 with a specific focus on shed, garage and garden security.

Collecting Christmas Cardboard Waste

SPECIAL CARDBOARD COLLECTION: East Riding of Yorkshire Council is reminding local people that all types of cardboard can be taken to the special collection on the car park at the big Co-op, Hedon, on Thursday, 30 December.

The cardboard can be from cereal packets and food boxes through to general packaging. It should be flattened and with non-cardboard packaging and sticky tape removed.

Council staff will be at the car park between 10am and 3pm.

Getting rid of your Christmas cardboard

“At Christmas, we all end up with an abundance of cardboard because of the packaging on everything from food to toys” Councillor Symon Fraser

CHRISTMAS IS OVER... but what do you do with that excess of cardboard you have amassed? East Riding Council is holding special collections of cardboard across the area after the festive bash is over.

The collections will be held on supermarket car parks close to recycling banks so that residents can recycle their glass bottles at the same time. Staff, with collection vehicles, will be at the Hedon, Co-op on Hull Road on Thursday 30th December between 10am and 3pm.

Councillor Symon Fraser, portfolio holder for environment and planning, said: “Lots of cardboard gets taken to our 10 household waste recycling sites over Christmas so, this time, we are taking the collections to our residents.”

Residents are asked to flatten the cardboard and remove sticky labels, tape and any non-cardboard packaging.

Remembrance Day 2010

REMEMBRANCE DAY will be observed today 11th November 2010. The day was originally established to commemorate the end of The Great War on that date in 1918.
World War I formally ended when major hostilities halted following the signing of the Armistice between the Allied forces and Germany “at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month” of 1918.

At 11am two minutes of silence will be observed across the United Kingdom. This continues a tradition started by King George V on November 11th, 1919.

Now, commonly referred to as Poppy Day, November 11th is also the day when we remember all those who have served, fought and made sacrifices in wars and conflicts since 1918.

The Poppy is traditionally sold by the Royal British Legion to raise funds to safeguard the welfare, interests and memory of those who are serving or who have served in the Armed Forces. The picture (kindly sent by Jim Uney) shows three veterans giving up their Sunday in the Hedon Co-Op to raise money and remember those who gave their all.
