BBC Radio Humberside Bike Ride to stop off in Hedon

BBC RADIO HUMBERSIDE IS 40 YEARS OLD THIS YEAR.

To help celebrate and mark the occasion the radio station is raising money to support St Andrew’s Children’s Hospice in Grimsby. The charity helps children with life-limiting illnesses. They work with families on both sides of the River Humber Estuary.

The Big Breakfast Bike Ride

Andy Comfort presents the station’s Breakfast Show, and as you may have heard on the Radio and on BBC Look North, he is hitting the road on his bicycle to raise money for the appeal.

Andy with two BBC colleagues, Adam Barber and Stuart Deakin, are already cycling 40-miles-a-day around the region. The five-day marathon started on Monday 21st February and will come to Hedon on Friday 25th February.

They are expected to be at St Augustine’s Gate, Hedon at about 3.50pm. Let us hope folk from Hedon can come along and meet Andy, Adam and Stuart, give them a wave and pop some cash in their collecting tins.

We will follow Andy Comfort via his @BBCHumberAppeal Twitter account on the Blog – see side-bar, 3rd down.

Hedon’s unofficial ‘library’

QUESTION: WHAT HAVE the following books got in common?

ANSWER: They have all been bought from the Dove House Charity Shop in Hedon – most of them costing far less than £2.50! The links to the books above are given to demonstrate what they would really cost if bought from a commercial seller.

The books listed above are only a small selection of the wide variety purchased from the shop – to read, or as gifts – during the last 12 months. To an avid reader, the Dove House Shop can become as popular as the local library.

Of course it is also good to know that your purchases are helping to sustain a popular charity and good cause in the Dove House Hospice – and once you have read a book you can pass it on to someone else to enjoy, or indeed donate it back to the shop!

If you haven’t visited the Dove House Shop for a while – then give it a whirl – you will be surprised by the quality of goods (not just books of course) on offer.

Charity donations from Mayor

OUTGOING TOWN MAYOR Councillor Mrs Ann Suggit has published information about the donations made to good causes from her annual charity fundraising efforts.

Mayor 2009-2010 Cllr Ann Suggit

The St. Augustine’s Church Restoration Fund is perhaps one of the biggest appeals in the town and Councillor Suggit has organised several activities throughout the civic year to support this (including the proceeds from inviting the Humberside Police Concert Band to perform in April 2010). This worthy cause benefitted from £1,625 donation.

The Royal British Legion (women’s section) received a donation of  £100. Help for Heroes, the charity that supports our wounded armed forces personnel, received £265.

Congratulations to Councillor Suggit on a successful year representing Hedon.
