Police appeal following hay bale arson

HAY BALES have been set alight in the last two weeks and Humberside Police and Humberside Fire and Rescue Service are advising farmers and members of the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

Locally, between 7:40pm and 7:55pm on Friday 2nd September 2011, a stack of bales in a field were set alight on Back Lane, Burton Pidsea.

The police are working closely with Humberside Fire and Rescue Service to investigate this incident and are appealing for the community to come forward with any information they may have.

Burton Pidsea Festival

A FESTIVAL at Burton Pidsea takes place on Sunday 4th September from 10am – 4:30pm.

The event at the Village Memorial Hall and Playing Fields, Back Lane, Burton Pidsea features a Youth Rugby Tournament as more than 20 teams compete in three different age groups. Vintage transport machinery and Holderness Birds of Prey will be on display. A Bar and Barbecue will be available.

Entrance to the event is free.

Hummingbird Hawk-Moth – of Burton Pidsea!

THE HUMMINGBIRD HAWK-MOTH is normally resident in warmer climates such as Southern Europe and North Africa. Occasionally the moth – so named because its hovering behaviour, and humming noise, make it look like a hummingbird – finds its way to colder climes during summer.

These excellent pictures are taken from Wikipedia the online encyclopedia, but one of these remarkable moths was seen in July by Derek Bullamore in his garden at Burton Pidsea!

WHETHER A RESIDENT or a visitor to our historic town, Hedon can be your base for a host of activities this weekend!

Sat 2nd July: Our neighbours in Paull host their latest Car Boot Sale tomorrow starting at 9am. After bargain hunting in the morning, then take a stroll around the pretty village – Paull has fantastic views of the Humber Estuary!

Sometimes you can pick up the odd ‘treasure’ or two at a car boot sale. If this is the case then you might want to get that Ming dynasty vase or that Woolworths 2002 Japanese figure valued? The Holderness Grange Lifestyle Village in Hedon is holding an open day on Saturday 10am – 4pm where you can Bring Your ‘Treasures’ for a FREE valuation.

If you want to pick up a something new and unique made by local crafts people then visit the Alexandra Hall in Hedon Town centre for its Summer Craft Fair from 10am – 3pm.

Hedon is but a short drive away from Burton Pidsea where the Memorial Hall is hosting the 69th Roos & District Horticultural Society Annual Show.

That’s Saturday taken care of – so what about Sunday 3rd July? You could put the car away and enjoy the Historic Hedon Pubs Walk!

Appeal – Garage Burglary – Burton Pudsea

POLICE ARE WARNING RESIDENTS TO BE VIGILANT following a burglary which occurred in Burton Pidsea on Monday 27 June 2011.

Between 3:00am and 4:30am, someone broke into the integral garage of a property on Back Lane, Burton Pidsea.

The offender(s) stole several items from within including:

  • 1 x silver-coloured Scott Sub 20 Roadbike
  • 5 x fishing rods
  • 1 x fishing umbrella
  • 1 x fishing landing net pole
  • 1 x fishing fold-up bed

Detectives investigating the incident are appealing for residents to be extra vigilant and to report anything suspicious to the police.

Anyone with any information about the burglary is asked to contact Humberside Police on 0845 60 60 222 quoting crime reference 1844821.

Horticultural Society Annual Show 2011 – Roos

THE 69th ANNUAL SHOW organised by Roos & District Horticultural Society takes place on Saturday 2nd July 2011 at Burton Pidsea Memorial Hall.

There are 36 Silver Challenge Trophies and the Banksian Medal to be won. The prestigious Banksian Medal is only awarded by societies affiliated to the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS). The medal is named after Joseph Banks who was one of the founders of the RHS and also sailed with Captain James Cook on HMS Endeavour.

Charity, Craft and Stalls are available from 2pm with the show opening at 2:30pm. Entry £1.

Winners will be presented with trophies from 4:00pm.

MO4′S – Taking the Bull by the rock horns!

5-PIECE ROCK COVER BAND the MO4′S are doing their first gig at the Black Bull in Burton Pidsea on Friday 27th May 2011 starting at 9pm.

The band regularly do gigs in Hedon, but this is their first in the Black Bull.
