Smoke inhalation incident in Thorngumbald

HUMBERSIDE FIRE AND RESCUE report that they attended an incident last night (15th August 2011) in Church Lane, Thorngumbald.

The incident involved smoke from external source entering a first floor flat. A woman and three week old baby suffering smoke inhalation were left in care of paramedics.

Did you know?… safety information from Humberside Fire and Rescue: Year on year, over 7,000 smoke alarms fitted in dwellings failed to operate, just under half of which can be attributed to missing batteries or batteries fitted incorrectly. See: Test it Tuesday!

Local Pub News from CAMRA

THE PUB MIRROR is the highly respected publication from the Hull and East Yorkshire Branch of CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) and some local pubs get a mention in the current July/Sept 2011 edition.

The Royal Mail in Thorngumbad has re-opened after an extensive refurbishment. New licensees Charlie and Viki Buckle are selling two cask ales from Marstons and food is available.

The Station in Patrington is holding a beer festival from Sun 27th – Tues 30th August.

The Hull “survey” crew visited these Holderness pubs reported on in the Pub Mirror: The Roos Arms in Roos is serving Black Sheep Bitter and Hancock’s Lamb Chop (yes – this is a real ale!) on its hand-pumps. The Holderness in Patrington was serving 4 cask bitters as well as Old Rosie Cider. Next was the Crooked Billet in Ryehill which amongst its beer selection was Tom Fool. Last – and host for supper (a long day!) was our very own Haven Arms in Hedon which was selling 7 beers and 3 ciders on that particular evening.

The Haven gets another mention for selling a selection of four ciders at its beer festival in May, as does The Shakespeare for selling two ciders at its festival in the same month.

Cock and Bell in Preston is mentioned for having Real Mild regularly available. And Haven Arms is noted for its licensee, Mark Hawksworth’s, Cask Marque accreditation as is The Station Patrington, The Black Horse, Roos, and Crooked Billet Ryehill (the picture of the Cask Marque is from The Station, Hedon by the way).

Send us your local pub news to hedonblog@gmx.com and we’ll do our best to publish it as well.
