Merry Christmas to all our Readers xx

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

It’s that time of year when we wish friends and colleagues all the best for Christmas! Thanks to all the readers of the Hedon Blog for your continuing support and helping us to make the news in Hedon!

A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL

What’s happening with St Augustine’s Church Clock?

ST AUGUSTINE’S CHURCH CLOCK is a landmark across the town. Many people use the clock and its bell chimes as they go about their daily business and so have missed the useful timepiece since it got stuck at 12 O’Clock.

Hedon Town Council have been informed that the company carrying out the routine maintenance and other work on the church Clock have encountered a problem, in that one of the cog-wheels that was cut, is not up to the required standard and that a new machine will have to be purchased to do the work. This will put the work back a number of weeks.

A letter is to be sent to the company expressing the Council’s disappointment and concerns at the length of time this work is taking. Therefore unfortunately the clock will not be working at Christmas or on New Years Eve!

Thanks to Jim Lindop for the information.

10% Discount for Hedon people at popular Hull Butchers and Bakers

MOORFIELDS
is a popular Butchers and Bakers Shop in Ings Road, Hull. The business is owned by local Hedon man Kevin Moore.

Kevin, his Master Baker John Allenby and the shop’s other staff, are all proud of the business. “We aim to be artisans of the meat and bakery trade” says Kevin “We use only traditional methods in our bakery at the back of the shop.”

Kevin - The 'Bread moulding machine'

The Hedon Blogger visited the shop on a busy Tuesday morning and saw those traditional methods in operation. Each pie being made that particular morning was individually shaped, filled and styled – definitely no factory mass-produced goods here!

Kevin is actually very modest about the business and the quality of the goods. It was left to one of the serving staff who whispered to me: “Our blackcurrant creams are fantastic! Customers tell us you can’t get the like anywhere else!”

Kevin is also proud to live in Hedon; it’s the town he’s lived in for 20 years. So it is with delight that the Hedon Blog can announce that Moorfields have arranged for a special 10% discount for any Hedon Blog reader that wants to take advantage of the Ings Road Shop products.

To take advantage of the offer then visit the Offers page on the Moorfields Website and put  stationpubhedon in the password  box (now there’s a clue to Kevin’s favourite pub!) – and then print out the Voucher. The Voucher can be used at the shop to claim your 10% discount.

This is a great offer for local people and a chance to save some money on quality produce – and do mention the Hedon Blog when visiting the shop!

Long Service at school recognised

BARBARA JORDAN retired yesterday after 30 years service as a school dinner lady at South Holderness School. As well as receiving her Long Service Award from East Riding of Yorkshire Council she also received cards, gifts and flowers from many of the staff and students.

She started work in the Lower School Kitchen washing pans and after a few years moved to the Upper School Kitchen initially as Assistant Cook and finally as Cook in Charge.

Upon being asked by headteacher Martin Cooper if she will miss the role she said “I won’t miss the early starts on cold mornings or scrubbing the floors at the end of the day, but I will miss the hustle and bustle of the school and of course the children.”

Barbara plans to relax over Christmas and New Year and then intends to join a gym and to enjoy time with her family and friends.

Congratulations Barbara!
