IT WAS INTERESTING to read in the Hull Daily Mail that the Hull City Council have discovered 4,000 tonnes of waste is dumped in Hull from people living outside the city and that they are to introduce a permit system to give Hull residents exclusive use of the city’s three recycling sites.

As Hull’s head of service for open spaces and waste said “they have had a review and altered the policy”. I therefore feel it is only right for members of the East Riding Council to carry out a review taking into account the facts, that all of Hull’s waste arrives through large tunnels at a Yorkshire Water site near Saltend, which is in the East Riding, not within the Hull boundary.

Therefore it would be prudent to issue residents of Hull with permits to allow, shall we say, four flushes per day and in the event, say over the weekend, if partaking of a kebab or curry, that they could apply for emergency flushes, failure to apply or comply to the policy would result in blockage of pipes , in more ways than one. In the event of total non-compliance to the system the flow will be reversed and waste pumped back to Hull where it initially came from.

New Hedon Churchyard trees funded by Vivergo Fuels

NEW TREES with a value of £2,000 have been planted at Hedon’s St Augustine’s Churchyard, thanks to a donation made by Vivergo Fuels.

“It’s great to be able sustain the greenery in the churchyard for this and future generations.”

Marie Atkinson, Vivergo’s HR Manager who administers the tree planting project said: “We are very pleased that the residents of Hedon will benefit from this latest tree planting project and we hope that the new trees will be a feature of the Churchyard for many years to come.”

She added: “Tree planting was a condition of our planning consent but rather than just hand over a cheque anonymously, we wanted to play an active role in identifying local sites which would benefit from new trees and in some cases, allow our employees to actually do the groundwork.”

Vivergo Fuels has been working with the HEYwoods Initiative to deliver a range of tree planting projects in the local area. Trees have been planted at Stockwell, Sidmouth, Longhill and Hornsea Primary Schools as well as at Paull Cemetery.

The Mayor of Hedon, Councillor Ann Sugitt, commented: “We are delighted to receive this money to cover new trees for the churchyard. They will grow into substantial trees and it’s great to be able sustain the greenery in the churchyard for this and future generations.”

Vivergo Fuels is committed to making a difference to the community in which it operates and has so far raised and donated over £100,000 to local charity and community groups. The company has also directly contributed over £50m into the local economy through its supplier and business contracts.
