Local Pubs celebrate Royal Wedding!

Shakespeare BannerALL OF THE TOWN’S PUBS now have some plans to celebrate the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton on Friday.

Pride of place must go to The Station for their Royal Wedding Garden Party at 1:30pm. The pub’s large grassed beer garden is being opened up for use by over a dozen charity, good cause or leisure stall-holders, who are all making a donation to charity.

The King’s Head is organising a Royal Wedding Karaoke and Disco starting at 2pm. The British Legion Club has a children’s disco at 11am in the morning, bingo entertainment in the afternoon and a “Good Old Fashioned knees-up!” in the evening.

The Shakey (Shakespeare) is holding a Royal Beer Festival over the long Bank Holiday Weekend. The Queen’s is holding its Royal British Tea Party with traditional quiz, bingo and singer.

Haven Arms is hosting another beer and cider festival over the Bank Holiday and will be holding a traditional street party event and showing the Royal Wedding live on its giant cinema screen.

And just a short hop away in Paull, the Crown Inn is serving breakfast at 10am before the wedding, showing it live on the big screen, a family barbecue in the afternoon and lighting of the beacon at 5pm folowed by karaoke.

So love it or hate it – and some people are cynical about the wedding – then you certainly have lots of places to celebrate or ‘drown your sorrows’ in the local area!

Preston murder mystery in Ripperologist magazine

FOLLOWING HIS RESEARCH into the murder of  Mary Jane Langley in Preston 120 years ago, Hull ‘Jack the Ripper’ investigator Mike Covell has had his article on the subject featured in the specialist Ripperologist magazine.

Although not revealed at the time, Mike was investigating the links between the Preston murder and Frederick Bailey Deeming. Deeming, who carried out murders in Liverpool and Melbourne in Australia – and possibly the Preston murder – is also one of the suspects for the ‘Jack the Ripper’ Whitechapel murders in , London!

Mike Covell is the local expert on the ‘Jack the Ripper’ murders having lectured on the subject and featured on local TV and in newspapers. You can catch up with Mike at his Casebook: Jack the Ripper blog.

BELATED “ROYAL WEDDING” MANIA 2011 has hit Hedon with a spate of activities being organised for the big day this Friday.

However, the Queen’s Head has come up with the cheekiest idea by organising the Royal Wedding Stag & Hen Party on Thursday 28th April. This night will appeal to all those eager to celebrate the Royals “last night of being single”.

Fancy dress Royal look-a-likes will find a welcome home on this particular night! And I’m sure that landlord Andy Brown and his staff will join in the fun by donning their own Royal Fancy Dress??

Reports and photos please to be sent to the Hedon Blog… :-)

‘Britain’ will be the theme at The Queen’s on Royal Wedding day itself. Customers have been cordially invited to a British Tea Party, British Quiz and British Bingo! A local singer will provide entertainment.
