COUNCILLOR DAVID THOMPSON is set to become the 664th Mayor of Hedon at the Town’s ‘Mayor Making’ ceremony in May 2011.
Councillor Thompson is the current Deputy Mayor and Chair of the Town Council Planning Committee. However, in other circles David Thompson is also recognised as a Poet. He took part in the Hull Larkin Celebrations in Hull last year and had poems published for the festival, see The Demon Driver of Holderness on This is ‘Ull and also hear Statuesque Larkinesque on the BBC website.
Writing new poetry might not be the top of Councillor Thompson’s list of priorities when it comes to his new Mayoral civic duties – but there is something quite exciting about the experience of that role being expressed in verse! So we hope that the roles of Mayor and Poet can become one – at least for the civic year 2011-12!
