Covering local HU12 Sports and Leisure news – Can you help?

HEDON IS HOME to a number of sports and leisure groups who have dedicated and passionate fans. Are you one of them?

The Hedon Blog would like to be able to include coverage of sports teams and hobby groups news on the website. What are the latest football matches and karate tournaments taking place in the HU12 post code area? What are the latest results from the pigeon or fishing club?

Cricket Fixtures for 2011 - Use the Blog to publicise your team news!

Reporting your team-news on the Hedon Blog will help bring some welcome publicity on the internet – the Blog readily shares its news and updates on Facebook, Twitter and regional websites.

The South Holderness Cricket Club sends us regular information about its events and was featured on the Blog last season: See sample at  South Holderness Cricket Club on the Blog.

Can you help the Hedon Blog with its sports and leisure news: Perhaps by giving the latest team-news ahead of a match, or letting readers know the latest fixtures, scores and results? You might like to write an occasional article or a regular weekly/monthly column? If you can help, get in touch!

And if you know of any local Hedon, Preston or Paull teams or hobby groups not listed below, then please let us know at hedonblog@gmx.com

Relaxation Classes (4 weekly course)

Stressed? Anxious? Can’t Relax?

A NEW COURSE of Relaxation Classes is to run in Hedon.

The course is run by a fully insured and qualified therapist and is designed to equip people with the information and techniques that can make a great difference in how they can rid/ease their anxiety, manage stress and learn how to relax.

Each week, new techniques will be taught and practised, and a guided progressive relaxation exercise will be done.

Hand outs describing some of the techniques will be available for people to take away, to enable them to practice at home.

The course of 4-weekly classes  costs £25 and starts on Thursday 24th February at the Red Cross Hall, Sherrifs Highway, Hedon. Each class will run from 7:30pm – 9:00pm.

Hedon’s HOTI heroes!

“CHEERS!” was the only item of business at a special Hull and Holderness Opposes the Incinerator (HOTI) last Friday night.

The special meeting was held to celebrate the scrapping of the plans to build a Waste Incinerator at Saltend. “It was a day we were in doubt would ever arrive – but it has!” said Jim Uney who sent in this photograph.

Whilst not all the key committee members and active campaigners are pictured, it is good to be able to put faces to the HOTI heroes of the hour! The town should be proud of those who stood and fought the incinerator over 5 long years. The Hedon Blog raises a toast to them – Cheers!

The only real mystery of the campaign remaining is… How do you pronounce HOTI? Is it “hoh-tee” or is it “hot-tee” – perhaps we will never really know! :-)

Donated oak bench destroyed

THE OAK BENCH donated by the Women’s Institute (WI) last year and erected on the green at the corner of Watson Drive and Alison Garth has been destroyed by vandals.

The Bench - and the space left now

The Holderness Gazette this week reported on the dismay of the local WI Branch members upon receiving the news that the bench had been vandalised beyond repair: The WI members were “dismayed and disgusted by this mindless act of destruction.”

The Town Council had only very recently arranged for the bench to be re-sited by 180° in order to give those seated a grand view of the green space.
