East Riding Photography Competition

While the snow and ice may have caused disruption, hardship, and some danger – it has also brought a festive feel and look to the East Riding, with the snow creating some unique and stunning views. The East Riding Cultural Partnership is now asking us to share those views and enter them into a photography competition.

If you have been taking photographs over the past fortnight and would like to share them, then enter them into the Capturing the East Riding Photography Competition. This amateur contest runs until 30 September 2011, when the entries will be judged and the winners entered into an East Riding-wide competition. So whether it is a picture of a snowman you have built or a shot of a field covered in snow, you can send in your entries now!

The Hedon Blog hopes to enter some of the amazing photos sent in to this website (with each individual’s permission), particularly the snowy scenes, but also other images. From January 2011 the Blog will set up a special page where readers will be able to vote on their favourite images in a ‘just-for-fun pre-contest’ - and those with the top votes can be entered into the main competition as Hedon Blog Entries and possibly win some prizes for the individual photographers!

The main competition is open to groups and individuals. For further information, contact Annabel Hanson, leisure, tourism and culture policy officer, on (01482) 391678 or email senseofplace@eastriding.gov.uk

All entries will be posted on the official competition website.

Royal Bank Holiday Street Party in Hedon?

UPDATE: See Royal Wedding Party

FRIDAY APRIL 29th 2011 is the date set aside for the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

The day has been declared a Bank Holiday by the Government (although a law is still required to make the Royal holiday a legal requirement) and people will already be making their plans to on how to spend the day and long weekend.

In Hedon there has been some talk about the town centre being closed to traffic for the day and the main streets being turned into a Royal Wedding Street Party zone!

The town celebrated Yorkshire Day in style in August 2010 – the Royal wedding would seem to be another opportunity to bring together people in Hedon in celebration.

It would be a massive task to organise in just four months and would need the active involvement and support of the Town Council and local businesses? What do you think?

Have a look at the official Engagement Photographs of the Royal couple released on 11th December by Clarence House.

HEDON TOWN COUNCIL meets on Thursday 16th December at the Town Hall. The full Council meeting tends to formally approve the minutes of the council’s sub-committee meetings which have met earlier. The committee meetings are where most of the key decisions are actually made.

These sub-committees are the Planning Committee, Financial & General Purposes Committee (which will meet just prior to the full Council meeting on this occasion) and the Property Committee.

You can find more about Hedon Town Council via its website.
