New Transport Plan to be developed

EAST RIDING COUNCIL’s Transport Policy Team is currently developing it’s Third Local Transport Plan (LTP3), which will come into effect in April 2011. It will be a 15 year strategic plan designed to improve the transport network, incorporating measures affecting all modes of transport.

The LTP3 will take into account the Government’s priorities, including its programme of public spending cuts. As a result, the new over-arching transport goals for the new plan will be:

  • Support economic growth
  • Reduce carbon emissions
  • Improve road safety
  • Improve accessibility

The plan will take into account the fact that residents may have specific difficulties in accessing the transport network and other local services due to lack of public transport services or poor walking and cycling infrastructure.

It will be interesting to see how much from the existing Second Local Transport Plan LTP2, particularly the Holderness Area Action Plan (view/download from Box.Net) will be maintained in the new LTP3. This existing plan sets out various measures for implementation in Hedon and Preston, including those to deter parking on footways, to install new road crossing schemes and install additional cycle facilities.

A full draft copy of the LTP3 is expected to be available on the council’s website between 1st December 2010 and 12th January 2011 to allow for public comments. In the meanwhile details of the Second Transport Plan LTP2 are available to view now on the council’s website.

Paull: Proposed New Village Hall

CONGRATULATIONS to The Paull New Village Hall Committee on the unveiling of their ambitious plans for a new hall.
Detailed drawings were on show to the public for the first time in the village hall on Sunday the 21st of October, a viewing platform with uninterrupted views of the river being one of the outstanding highlights.

A 5 year programme of detailed fund raising events has already started hopefully culminating in raising sufficient finance.

UPDATE December 2010: See Lion’s Santa Sleigh Tour.
SANTA’S SLEIGH (courtesy of the Holderness Lions) will be in Hedon on Monday 6th December 2010 – in the Inman’s area about 6pm.

The Holderness Lions Santa Sleigh tour has become a traditional feature of seasonal fun in the Holderness villages at this time of year!

Meanwhile – the big man with the red suit and the white beard just might be spotted this Friday at the Switch On of the Hedon Christmas Lights!?

The “one-stop-online-place” for everything and anything about Hedon

THANK YOU! You’ve taken the time to visit the Hedon Blog, probably to look at the latest posting. Whilst here, you browse through the headings to see what’s new – and you just might find something that interests you.

But what information, news, events, or other coverage is missing?

The aim is to try and make the Hedon Blog the one-stop-online-place for everything and anything to do with Hedon (and Preston and Paull for that matter).

Let us know your thoughts on what’s missing on the Hedon Blog? Leave a comment; e-mail us on hedonblog@gmx.com, or fill in the box on Psst! Got a Hedon or HU12 news tip?

Hedon – Preserving our uniqueness!

HEDON TOWN COUNCIL has appealed to local businesses to help in improving the appearance and special character of the town, and enhance civic pride – particularly in the town centre.

As well as catering for local residents shopping needs, the town’s central thoroughfare, of St Augustine’s Gate, Market Place and Souttergate, is also a visitor attraction. Visitors find Hedon a charming place to visit: They come, and are pleased with the town’s unique charms; they also buy from the local shops; eat and drink locally, use and pay for local facilities.

And therein lies the issue: – Local businesses want to attract residents and visitors into their premises. By doing so they advertise their premises in ways that ‘stand out’ from the crowd. Over a period of time a series of bright, modern advertising logos and signs dominate a town centre – and it begins to look like any other town centre in the country! The ‘local’ charm and uniqueness is lost!

Fashion, Photography, Market and Scouts…

A VARIETY of useful and interesting events are taking place over the next few days (see What’s On).

Creative types can meet up to discuss the Business of Photography at Humber Mud tomorrow night (Thursday 18th November), which is also the same date of the Charity Fashion Show organised by the Wardrobe Boutique at Haven Arms. The Fashion Show aims to raise funds for the BBC Children in Need appeal.

Keep an eye out for Cub Scouts in Hedon on Saturday 20th November. They will also be raising money for Children in Need around town and at the Hedon ‘Big’ Co-op at specific times between 10am and 3pm. They should be easy to spot – they’ll be tied together as a human caterpillar! Support their efforts if you  see them.

A Christmas Market also takes place at St Augustine’s Church on Saturday to raise money for church funds – but also to entertain.

Local MP Graham Stuart is also in Hedon on Saturday morning on one of his regular street surgeries – I’m sure that many a collecting tin will be proffered in his direction!
